The Tweed Trout & Grayling Initiative (TTGI) was set up to create self sustaining management of the wild trout and Grayling fisheries within the Tweed system. It aims to do this by gathering the information needed to advise local Angling Associations on the correct management of their Association water. The initiative uses volunteers to help gather this information and it is hoped that this will provide the anglers with the tools needed to one day manage their Association water’s themselves.
The Initiative is a flagship project and its management plan is designed so that it can be adapted to and replicated on other rivers throughout the country.
Although started with European money the Initiative is largely funded by 13 local Angling Associations all of which are members of the Federation of Border Angling Associations (the Federation administers the Brown Trout & Grayling angling within the Borders). The Initiative was three years old in May 2008.
